With a recent helping of some premium materialisation Vans, we thought we'd put together a pack focus on a number of styles perfect for the festive months. From Sherpa lining to robust suede and nubuck combination, stand out winter colour palettes and outstanding all-around quality, Vans have really put something special together.
Vans "Sherpa" Pack
Taking the robust Sk8-Hi and the sometimes less robust Slip-On and applying an ultra durable leather upper / Shepard fur lining combo has reinvigorated the usual sunny California style for the darkest of months. The great use of standout colour palettes on the Slip-Ons, a lush combo of staple Vans colourways mahogany rose and Grape Leaf split across the two styles, gives a warm touch to shoes designed for the colder months. The Sk8-Hi uses a no-nonsense combo of Black and White with a poking of cream fur on the collar and tongue, poking through a contrasting set of waxed black laces. Both Slip-Ons are rounded out by a white wall rubber midsole on the classic Vans gum waffle sole, and a fur smattering all along the innards of the shoe, the Sk8-Hi is rounded out with Vans' patented ultra cush sole unit, with a white all in one construction for a noticeably light feel.
Vans "Wafflesaw" Pack
Van's have been displaying their intent with a number of aesthetically pleasing releases in their Wafflesaw series. The pack of two in the Steve Caballero pro model and reciprocal Old Skool are a wonderful concept showing off the durability of the legendary skate brand. The Caballero Pro Full-Cab (the original cab of sorts) returned last year in a smattering of colours and styles, with this Wafflesaw remake taking all the most robust parts of the former shoe; it's ultracush sole unit and Duracap underlays. Updated here with nubuck and suede materialisation, this premium complexion is rounded out with a gum bumper on a gum Wafflesaw sole, for extra traction. The Old Skool offers the exact same specs and performance but on the classically slimmed down silhouette. All branding is rendered tonal on the Old Skool, otherwise rounding out an aesthetically symmetric pack.
Vans "Native" Pack
As proven over numerous collaborations and revamped inline styles, Vans have proven they can bring new ideas to the table with simple but effective changes. With this Embroidered "Native" pack, the California brand takes influence from North American heritage for a simple yet effective hit on the classic Sk8-Hi and Old Skool models. The Old Skool has am embroidered symmetrical pattern around the ankle and a corduroy heel tab in a standout beige, the rest of the shoe remaining in a monochromatic black and white iteration. The Sk8 takes a more defiant stance in its change, with a monochromatic White and Black upper including two embroidered straps to great success. Both styles utilize techniques used in recent collaborations (Taka Hayashi comes to mind) but without the price tag of the limited edition creations.
