Vans are great at adapting sneaker lines for seasonal purposes, they make the transition from summer styles to winter-ready kicks seem effortless. The fact they can make the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool (which are essential summer kicks) look so right with a winter construction is beyond me, not a lot of brands pull this off quite so seamlessly. But Vans have seemed to hit the nail on the head.
Last year we received in four premium versions of the Sk8-Hi which was introduced as the MTE, it's that time of the year again where the MTE has entered the scene once more to brace your feet for the colder days. This time they have come back stronger and in greater numbers, with a collection boasting seven different styles; consisting of six Sk8-Hi's and one Old Skool.
They can prepare you for all types of terrains and conditions thanks to the water-resistant Scotchguard upper, tooled up with a lugged outsole for that increased traction and robustness. Rocking the aesthetics of a hiking boot with the rope lacing and flannel lining on some of the pairs. It even features a gusseted tongue to offer even more insulating and weather resisting qualities.
On offer is a whole host of colour schemes which there will certainly be a pair to fit your tastes. Whether that be the All black Sk8-Hi's which takes a much more toned down and subtle approach, or moving to the other end of the spectrum where the Glazed Ginger spices up your sneaker game and has a livelier essence to them.
The Old Skool definitely stands out from the bunch, despite it having a tonal Grape Leaf colour, the impacting features is the materialisation, which is built from a rich leather that is complemented by touches of sumptuous Suede. When you take a look at these you can just see they are made to the finest quality of standard, which is why these would be my go-to choice.
As always the Women have the opportunity to wear the best colourway, with a clean Micro Chip upper which has been matched with my favourite Gum midsole. For some reason, that I can't quite put my finger on, but they just look amazing.
Have a look through the entire collection and let us know which one is your favourite.
