Wow, what an amazing 16 days of sport and pride. We can't believe it's all over, but the hype for 2020 has certainly begun, with Tokyo receiving the Olympic flag in the closing ceremony last night. In such a modern age of watching, sharing and liking, the Rio Olympics drew the world together with ease for a unifying summer spell of inspirational performances, with some unforgettable highlights.
Who could forget the hometown hero Neymar netting that decisive penalty to win Brazil the gold in football, a sport which has long been in the hearts of the host nation's citizens, but a sport they have never won gold in, until now. Or the Brazilian men's volleyball team snatching the gold in an emotional final game, a feat no Brazilian team has ever managed before.
There were some awesome Basketball highlights too, with Team USA dominating play, carrying on their 25 game Olympic win streak with ease, thanks to some explosive play from Kevin Durant, who dug deep to score a staggering 30 points in the final game of the tournament. They may not be the 92 dream team but they sure did the USA proud.
We can't talk about Rio '16 without mentioning Team GB's unbelievable performance, bringing home more medals than Beijing and London, empowering the UK and setting the bar for all future sporting tournaments. Shout out Mo, Kenny, Laura Trott, Whitlock and every other athlete who took part to represent our proud nation! Team GB took home 27 Gold, 23 Silver and 17 Bronze, an amazing tally, but that success doesn't explain their comical sneakers at the closing ceremony?! We get they're lit up to represent the union jack but we can't help but ask; WHAT ARE THOSE?
