Sneaker Focus: Foamposite Pro "Dr Doom" Edition

If you didn’t know what you wanted for Christmas, you do now. Nike is once again releasing the classic Foamposite Pro “Dr. Doom” colour-way. Originally released in Summer 2006 as part of the Fantastic Four pack.

The colourway is inspired by the infamous Victor Von Doom, also know as “Dr. Doom” from the Fantastic Four comic book. They are composed of a sleek matte Black foam shell upper with clean contrasting white accents with swoosh stitching on the inner liner, outsole, tongue and the notorious jewel swoosh on the side panels creating a sneaker that has a contemporary appeal whilst retaining the flair that makes Foams the unique.

The Foamposites design is inspired by a sunglasses case and was way ahead of its time and even to this day its still ahead. Eric Avar apparently designed these with Scottie Pippen in mind but was made popular by Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway after he seen them in Avar’s bag and became his go-to sneaker which led to the popular “Royal Blue” iteration.

Foamposites initially made waves in the sneaker industry when released due to their unorthodox style and technological aspects, but since that they have gained a cult-like following over time with devoted sneaker heads making them a sought after pair of kicks with one person even trying to sell his car (with a full tank of gas) for a pair of Foams. They instantly make any collection that extra bit special, just like it would be having the amazing spider-man #129 in your comic book collection (If you know, you know).

But enough about Dr. Doom & comics, at the end of the day Foamposites are one of the most iconic basketball sneakers that have been released by Nike in the last 20 years and any sneakerhead knows that these are a great addition to your collection.
