Music For The Sole! Soleheaven Picks Top 10 of 2017

What a year of releases. When every big album seemed to hit the high notes, surprise drops of projects and a plethora of newcomers, it feels like urban music took a step to full domination of the music sphere. Guys like Post Malone, Cardi B took the Spotlight away from your Taylor Swifts of the past, and ushered in the possible apex of Rap/ Hip Hop and Rnb, for that we wanted to celebrate with our picks of the year.

Callum - Merchandise Director

Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory

"Big Fish Theory for me was a separation from the monotony of much other ‘popular’ rap albums this year. Vince's distinctive voice and flow, paired with great beats and intelligent lyrical content is an instant win for me. It's great to see an artist like Vince be one of a handful of Rappers to be a truly eclectic artist in his genre. Album of the year, hands down."

Dale - Managing Director

Four Tet - New Energy

"British dance music's most consistent purveyor of eclectic groves does it again. Having had Four Tet's music with me for the majority of my adult life, it's nice to hear an artist grow and mature alongside my own experiences, and New Energy is a statement from an elder statement of the electronic scene. The lead single, Two Thousand and Seventeen, is amongst the best work of the producer."

Simon - Store Manager

A$AP Ferg - Still Striving

"Rich Chigga doesn't have an album so..."

Tom - Content Writer

6 Dogs - 6 Dogs

"He’s a new one for me but I can listen to his album throughout, its very chill and consider how most of my music is very depressing it’s upbeat as fuck.
It’s got a very lazy aesthetic but for some reason, it’s just so catchy"

Jacob - Sales Specialist

Dave - Game Over

From track one I knew I was going to enjoy this project. For a 7 track, E.P. Dave manages to get his point over pretty early on, and it's left the door open for Dave to step up further and release a full length. If this is anything to go by, we'll be in for a treat.

Josh - Dispatch Assistant

Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy

"I grew up with Odd Future, so I knew I was going to react strongly to Flower Boy whether it was love or hate. For me, Flower Boy shows a tenfold more reserved maturity than any OF project, and I've probably enjoyed this album over any OF record."

Luke - Photography Manager

Aj Tracey - Secure The Bag
"Slight different choice from me, 2017 brought a lot of great music but going from play count this is one album I keep going back to, before this I hadn't listened to much of Aj Tracey but after listening to this I will definitely be waiting eagerly on future releases."
Ollie - Sales Specialist
Brockhampton - Saturation I, II & III
"I can't remember the last group to just explode in a short space of time, but over the course of three mixtapes, Brockhampton has brought a unique stance on rap across the board. Every mixtape has it's own feel, with a varied amount of beats from the in-house production team."
Andrew - Photography Intern
Kendrick Lamar - Damn
"Has any album actually been better than this ever?"
Harry - Warehouse Manager
"At Soleheaven we love DRAM, a breath of fresh air in the mumble rap takeover. The guy has the ability to combine humor, crooning, RnB and hard-hitting rap tracks in a full project, so I was really happy to see a deluxe edition of his first album come out this year, with a ton of new features. Really excited for the next album!"
