That's right folks! It is the 20th anniversary of the beloved Air Max 98, a silhouette that doesn't see much air time (Pardon the pun). The only time we have seen the 98 in recent times was the sought after collaboration pack Nike did with Supreme in 2016, which seen four colourways make an appearance. But, the fact that they are very rarely released makes them an exclusive and sought after style.
The resurface is a much welcomed one by by all Air Max fans, especially when the initial colourways were announced, which are arguably the most iconic and sought after OG options, the 'Gundam' & 'Tour Yellow', what a way to kick of the celebrations. The 98 is a robust version of the 97 with a similar shape and the exact same full length air unit, but with a slightly bulkier panelling which allows for a more durable wear.
Let's start with the Gundam's. Taking inspiration from the highly popular Japanese Anime series 'Gundam Wing' which birthed in 95, it was a huge part of my childhood as I spent countless hours playing Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon on the Playstation 2, which I wish I could get my hands on now. But more specifically the colour inspiration is taken from the mobile suit RX-78-2 Gundam, with rich hits of Obsidian & University Red featuring on the 98's.
The next colourway is just as appealing if not more, the striking 'Tour Yellow' features a white base with hits of Midnight Navy lining the midsole, sock-liner and various other accents, whilst the Tour Yellow adorns the mini swoosh on the flank and inside the air unit, for a subtle yet bold appeal.
Both styles are priced at £145 and are available in limited sizes. With them being highly sought after OG colourways these will not be around for long, so make sure to be fast when they release at 08:00 am GMT (26/01/2018).
