It has been a crazy year for sneaker releases! With if anything too much to choose from, we struggled to pick our favourites for the year here at Team Soleheaven, but just for you, we managed to select our favourite release of the year and why we chose them.

Nike Air More Uptempo
The retro Pippen’s hit their 20th anniversary this year and are coming back in the classic colourway that dresses the sneaker in an all-white upper. “These are a timeless classic, no doubt. When I first saw Pippen wear them in the ’92 Olympics, I was amazed by the way they had AIR branded across the side instead of the typical swoosh, they instantly stood out for me, so this colourway stood out to me as was a much more mature version with clean white summer vibes. With the leather uppers and gum outsole, they finally received a lifestyle element which has been lacking in previous styles.

Nike Air Zoom Spiridon ‘Olympic’
To celebrate the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Nike released this special iteration of the iconic Spiridon, boldly rocking a metallic gold swoosh that pays homage to the winning medal. “They are only around once every four years so these have to be my choice for 2016. I do like the Roundel iteration that was released recently, but in my opinion, these are a much more wearable pair as they are a lot more subtle and go cleanly with my fits. Not to sound too “Hype Orientated” but these were a lot more exclusive than the Roundels which makes these a little extra bit special when on your feet.

Supreme x Nike Air Max 98 'Snakeskin'
The Supreme collab with Nike on the 98’s was a highly anticipated drop and with good reason. All shoes feature Supreme branding on the toe, with co-branding on the insoles and the Air Max logo on the tongue. “I went with the ‘Snakeskin’ colourway as they are easily my favourite from the drop due as its delicate, whilst being loud due to the materials, also its been a while since the 98’s have been seen so when Supreme did a collab on these I was set on getting a pair, luckily I wasn’t robbed blind when paying resale”.

NikeLab Air Presto Mid x Acronym "Hot Lava"
This collab was an interesting one for me as Acronym have always been such an unorthodox style of designs so when I saw they were doing a collab on some Presto's I was pretty stoked like the way they incorporated the zip on the ankle is really unique and stands out. This colourway is easily my favourite as they don't play it safe, they pop so much with the colour contrasting on the black. Plus the fact that Presto's are mad comfy means they are my choice for the year.

Saucony x Extra Butter “For the People”
Inspired by the presidential elections this year, Saucony and Extra butter created a social design experiment where the sneaks were literally made for the people by the people. “I think these are a great way to connect with customers and there is no better way to do this than to let the customer create the sneakers, it gives them more satisfaction when wearing them as they helped create them. The fact they used social media today shows a very current way of thinking which is refreshing to see instead of the same old generic releases”.

size? x Dave White x Nike Air Max 95 DW
Designed from Dave White’s ‘Albion’ Collection. This pack is very out there, especially with the artwork on the lateral parts. Each pair takes inspiration from animals native to Britain (the Fox & Rabbit). “It’s a vibrant, artistic take on a streetwear classic. I prefer the rabbit colourway as the artwork colour pops on the neutral beige base and can definitely turn some heads on the street. (Small details like the box artwork mixed with the highly unique pattern on the sneaks make these my definite favourite pick for 2016)”.

Adidas x Parley Ultra Boost
Adidas x Parley released only 50 pairs of this version in 2016 but are planning on releasing a million pairs in 2017 in order to further reduce environmental waste in our oceans. They are made using coastal plastics from the Maldives as well as illegal deep sea gillnets, these sneaks are made up 95% ocean plastic. “I didn’t have to think long when I chose these for my pick of the year, they are a definite game changer. It shows the innovation and sustainability of the brand, & to create such an aesthetically pleasing pair of sneaks that benefit our oceans and wildlife is amazing. I can’t wait to hopefully get a pair next year (the colour from the gill nets is incredible as it looks like the clear blue oceans and it adds a nice touch of colour to the fresh white kicks”.

Soulland x Nike Sb Koston 3 Hyperfeel
“In my eyes, the most progressive skate shoe around, currently paired with an underrated Swedish brand. The whole collection was great, but the retake on the Koston pro Model was stellar. Even the accompanying promo video nailed the tone of the collection. Potentially the only skate shoes you could rock with tailored suit pants."
Kyrie 3 "Black Ice"
The latest model released from Kyrie Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers Point Guard, after the success of the last two models released from him, these have been another success with the curved outsole and unique styling. "I'm a huge basketball fan and I also really enjoy watching Kyrie play on the court, his movement is crazy good. The personal details on these sneaks mixed with the unique styling with the speckles on the side and the heat maps on the outsole made these my definite choice for 2016".
