Taking an ACG legend in the Nike Air Humara and re-birthing it for the 20th anniversary was never going to be an easy task. The Humara, a heralded trailing running design debuted by first time designer Peter Fogg, has found a cult following amongst sneaker heads with brands like Supreme rewarding the fandom with Quickstrike editions recently. With its intrinsically 90s aesthetics, it was only a matter of time before the re-update for 2017 came, and Nike have delivered with the Nike Air Zoom Grade.
Taking the Humara's original trail running specs, the Zoom Grade adapts the jagged, contoured sole unit of the original and adds a rigid heel unit that helps the foot sit in place during activity. The mixture of foam and Air Zoom in the midsole promises a responsiveness and comfort for any scenario.
With the upper, the Zoom Grade moves away from the original Humara design, bringing a sock like upper in to play with a mixture of water resistant materials layered upon one another. A finely woven mesh takes prevalence on the upper, with rubberised binding across welded seams. An additional patterned rubber drapes the upper third of the silhouette, keeping the ankles unaffected from any splashes.
Finally, the last piece to the design comes in the lacing system, a toggle based rope system that borrows cues from the Humara, and more recent contemporary designs like the Air Max More and the City Loop. A mixture of 3M eyelets and canvas lace holders give the Zoom Grade it's iconic look, all topped off by 3M tick on the base of the toe box, and mid sized clip art branding on a sewn strip of the tongue.
As a winterised active based tech shoe, it's sleek design will be ideal for cold morning trips to the gym, or quick dashes to the shops pre-Christmas.
