One of the surprise sneaker success stories of the year is Nike's brand new 2018 silhouette the Air Max 270. If you're unacquainted, here's part of a piece we wrote earlier this year!
"The 270 takes its inspiration from two of the OG classics in the Air Max lineage, the Air Max 180 & 93' respectively... taking a lot of cues with the air bubble's height (the 93'), and circumference (the 180), but in true Nike fashion pushing the boundaries of each of its predecessors to bring a truly unique finish."
As promised from the initial press release, Nike has been chopping and changing their experimental silhouette to a multitude of effects, finally bringing a flyknit construction to the upper just in time for the build-up to summer.
This edition features an ode to its heritage with an ultramarine OG Air Max 180 colourway. Block-coloured panelling in a Crimson, White and Blue stands out across the Air Max's upper, adding a very slight chukka'd bootie to the ankle and customary TN adapted lace tab ringing true on this edition too, being replaced here by a sewn leather TN branding. All round, the branding is kept to a relative minimalism, swoosh adoring toe box of the sneaker, alongside neon 270 branding on the neighbouring lateral side.
Inside the shoe is where the homage rings true. With it's release in the build to Air Max day, the footbed includes all heralded exposed Air symbolism, from Zoom Air all the way to Tuned Air. The two that hold the most weight? its's predecessor in design, the Air Max 180 and the bold 3.26, symbolising the build-up to the heralded day.
Nike keeps stepping up the game in it's build up to Air Max Day, with limited release after another, with this Air Max 270 the choice just got hard, what will you be picking up?
