Nike Innovation or Automation?
We’ve been having a very interesting debate here at SoleHeaven HQ with colleagues, friends and customers about the future of sneaker design and manufactuering advancement.
In our last two buying appointment’s we’ve had with Nike, they have introduced two advancements in how they design and manufactuer their new range of Nike Air Max 1, Air Max 90 & Air Force 1. Those innovations are called Nike Hyperfuse and Nike Vac-Tech.
Over the coming weeks Nike’s Hyperfuse technology will be released via the next generation of Nike Air Max 1, Nike Air Max 90 & Nike Air Force 1. Hyperfuse uses heat and pressure to weld the panels together, hence no stitching.
And this is the issue, if there is no stitching they can reduce their labour costs, because only a machine can heat weld. Does this design innovation actually disguise the fact that they are automating to reduce labour costs, or is this genuine innovation?
What do you think?

ROA on the yard
In demand Belgian street artist ROA has been up at Hoults Yard, Newcastle painting one enormous wall!
This wall is on the end of our destination store (The Sneaker Lounge)
The piece is called “four horses of the apocalypse” and ROA worked for 3 days in wet and cold conditions, but he’s pulled it out of the bag…..it looks amazing!
Next time you visit The Sneaker Lounge, be sure to check it out.

Breaks in Transmission…
Breaks of 10 are a blossoming UK fashion, art & lifestyle blog who seek out original content. This is a really fresh take because so many bloggers recycle content from the big blogs like Hypebeast.
The chaps came down to our store (The Sneaker Lounge) to interview our MD Dale Parr and talk about the rise of SoleHeaven.
Here’s the short film.

Jon Burgerman hits Hoults Yard
Jon Burgerman has been up in Newcastle this weekend to paint a massive 30 metre stretch of Hoults Yard, right out side our store (The Sneaker Lounge)
After 13 hours forming 4 of his favourite characters into this large scale and vibrant piece mother nature decided to strike before the paint had set…..Nightmare!
The result looks like the characters have all being crying and their mascara has run!
Jon will be back up this week to finish and repair this fantastic street piece.
