Trainer Angel Strikes

Core-classic trainers, a passion for heights and a mysterious angelic street art design featuring a QR Code appear to be the work of a sneaker obsessed character known only as the ‘Trainer Angel’.

City skate parks and popular bars on the arts and music scene appear to have been visited overnight by the Trainer Angel. The installations are numbered and each location has a shoe positioned in impossible high up locations as a physical signature. The sneakers that have so far been spotted range from Nike Air Max, Supra Skytop, Asics GT II and ltd edition Vans.

The design is a bold industrial graphic design with strong lines, featuring between the wings of the body a giant digital QR code.

Scan the QR code with your mobile phone and you’re taken through to the home of the Trainer Angel where you can view exclusive images and connect with the Trainer Angel directly using social media.

OK, OK we’ll own up. Yes the Trainer Angel is our representative on the streets! TA is out there engaging with sneakerheads while we are picking fresh kicks to satisfy their desires.

Trainer Angel Strikes in Newcastle

I spotted this amazing piece of paste-up street art in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle yesterday. It’s called Trainer Angel and this was numbered #5, so there must be more. The really amazing thing about this installation was the Nike Air Max 1 glued to the wall 15ft off the ground!
The Trainer Angel had a QR code on it’s chest, so I scanned it and it sent me to the Trainer Angels home….heres the link www.trainerangel.com
I loved the digital interaction with a piece of art, very cool indeed!

Nike Innovation or Automation?

We’ve been having a very interesting debate here at SoleHeaven HQ with colleagues, friends and customers about the future of sneaker design and manufactuering advancement.

In our last two buying appointment’s we’ve had with Nike, they have introduced two advancements in how they design and manufactuer their new range of Nike Air Max 1, Air Max 90 & Air Force 1. Those innovations are called Nike Hyperfuse and Nike Vac-Tech.

Over the coming weeks Nike’s Hyperfuse technology will be released via the next generation of Nike Air Max 1, Nike Air Max 90 & Nike Air Force 1. Hyperfuse uses heat and pressure to weld the panels together, hence no stitching.

And this is the issue, if there is no stitching they can reduce their  labour costs, because only a machine can heat weld. Does this design innovation actually disguise the fact that they are automating to reduce labour costs, or is this genuine innovation?

What do you think?
